Family History
Who thinks, "tonight I'll sit down and write my family history?" Most of us wouldn't know where to start.
OurLetter makes family history easy, social and fun.
Here's how it works:
Step One. We'll set up a family website for you
. It will look great, with all of the regular
parts you'd expect: galleries, address book, discussions,
files and links.
Step Two. Every month we'll send out an email to each member of your
family reminding them its time for a new issue.
Step Three. Everyone will answer a short quiz about their
lives (questions can be traditional, like "How was your month?", or
fun, like "What movies have
you seen lately?", "How's school?", "What do you usually eat for
breakfast?"—ask anything you like!)
Step Four. Everyone can add pictures to the newsletter if they like.
Step Five. When it's done, we'll email you a finished family
newsletter that brings you everyone's lives, in words and pictures,
from wherever they are.
That's it! A family web page—an automatic newsletter—easy. Simple
to answer, automatic to run.
And the real magic happens over time:
Two months and your family will be in the habit of responding.
Three months and they'll be looking forward to every issue.
Four months and you have a family tradition.
Then, after a year or two, one by one, everyone will realize
the value of what they've built: a family history that snapshots every
single month for the past few years. They have issue after issue of
history for the entire family—a treasury that they can look back on
the rest of their lives and that they can be pass on to their
children.
All of the issues will be stored for you, securely archived in multiple
locations throughout the US. You can flip through them at any time. Or
you can print them out to publish them, store them, send or email to
others—your history is yours to keep.
Your history happens automatically over time just by sharing your lives with each other. The plan makes it easy. And you can get the ball
rolling in less time than it takes to write an email.
